Launched in 2005, YouTube allows billions of people to discover, watch and share originally-created videos. YouTube provides a forum for people to connect, inform, and inspire others across the globe and acts as a distribution platform for original content creators and advertisers large and small. YouTube came up with a fresh look and a UX that has been quite interesting to talk off over coffee in the past year.

CanvasFlip came up with the #Flippd version of the YouTube app. Get a sneak peep into the prototype of this very thoughtful latest design-

A great design pleases a designer, but the prove of UX work pleases him even more. So here we have the analysis data of the latest YouTube prototype.

  • Session Replay

With CanvasFlip you can capture every action the user performed on the prototype. And then use these recordings to evaluate the usability of the prototype.

  • Conversion Funnel

Conversion funnel analysis is a vital component to truly understanding customer behavior, and one of the most effective ways of viewing how many visitor did – or did not – convert.

  • Interaction Heat Map

What caught the attention of the user and what didn’t, which UI element had the maximum interaction and which did not. Starting from red, being the most interacted area to blue being the least interacted one, you can visualize the hierarchy of interaction in form of color gradients.

Takeaway from the #Flippd version of YouTube app -

A spokesman of YouTube says, “With more videos coming to YouTube every minute, we’re always experimenting with ways to help people more easily find, watch and share the videos that matter most to them. We’ll consider rolling changes out more broadly based on feedback.”

And here comes YouTube prototype of the app with tweaks of changes in UI but great ones in terms of UX

The biggest change in term of UX has been - YouTube going Hamburger-less. While many designers across the globe discussed the pros and cons of a hamburger, YouTube removed the hamburger and introduced 4 tabs on a horizontal swipe - Home, Trending, Subscription and Account. By opening up more options on the primary app screen, YouTube makes it convenient for the users.
